"Migration Then and Now"

Lewis Watts, Emeritus Professor of Art, UC Santa Cruz

This illustrated talk will trace my photographic documentation of the connections between the Great African American Migration of the 20th. Century and the current migration crisis in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. This work come from my own family history and work I have done (so far) in San Francisco, Oakland, Harlem, New Orleans, Cuba, France, Greece and South Africa. I am looking at the people and the traces they left, who have a common cause of leaving home because of war, political oppression and the promise of economic opportunity.
