"Post-Employment Benefits Forum" Tue, November 3, 2009, 2:30-4:00pm Stevenson College Events Center
Mr. Schlimgen updated his previous talk of March 24th, pointing out that the performance of the retirement fund now of -19% is better than the previous -28%, because the market has recovered. The Presidential Task Force that is developing recommendations for the Regents hosted this forum. The forum focused on the long-term sustainability of UC's benefits program. (background info) The panel members listened to the comments and questions of the audience. Salient points raised were "student fees should not be raised to meet shortfalls in benefits or retirement". "Could we see broken out by categories of employment (staff, faculty, senior management, retirees) the total operating costs, and separately the liabilities for retirement and health care?" "Is there a cap on the maximum paid out annually for a retiree?" Without knowing what might be considered, the audience had nothing to respond to. Another presentation is planned for March.

"Financial/Estate Planning Workshop" Tue March 23, 2010. John Burroughs and Jane McKenzie, Certified Financial Planners; and Steven Penrose, Estate Lawyer. 9:00am-12:00 Media Theater. The three panelists each gave a 40 minute presentation and then the whole panel answered questions. Reference materials were available to take, additional materials were emailed or made available on the web site, see "Resources > Financial". The Workshop was cosponsored by the UCSC Emeriti Group, the Retiree Association, and the Chancellor's office. This was scheduled during Spring Break, about 45 people attended.
