Meetings

The UCSC Emeriti Group met on the third Thursday every-other month from September through May — five occasions during 2007-2008. Our meetings include lunch at the Cowell College Provost"s House, followed by a speaker and discussion. The average attendance was 25 members. Except for the Guest Speaker, each attendee pays $17.50, a $2.50 increase over previous years.

Members

The paid-up Membership improved during the year: 72, compared to 68 for 2006-2007. A check for $72.00 was remitted to the CUCEA Treasurer on April 4, 2008.

Awards

M. Brewster Smith, professor emeritus of psychology, received the 2008 award for Distinguished Theoretical and Philosophical Contributions to Psychology from a division of the American Psychological Association (APA).

Finances

The checking and savings accounts are kept at Bay Federal credit union, and as of 5/15/08 our Balance was $1,445.02. Total CUCEA Expense was $334.33, which included travel expenses for Davis and Riverside, dues, and postage and printing for the Bio-Bib Survey.

Emeriti Lectures

The UCSC Emeriti Group sponsors lectures by distinguished Emeritus Professors. These lectures are given twice during the year in a campus auditorium. The Chairperson is responsible for coordinating the Emeriti Lectures. The Emeriti speakers for 2006-2007 were:

April 9, 2007: G. William Domhoff, Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Sociology

"The Awesome Lawfulness of Your Nightly Dreams." It later appeared on UCTV.
