Abstract:

In this program, Ruth will briefly describe Independent
Living, Adult/Senior Day Care, Assisted Living, and Nursing
Homes, giving a major focus on Home Care. What is the
difference between "Home Health Care" and "Home Care"?
What should you expect from Home Care? Should you hire a
caregiver from an agency or hire a private caregiver? What
are the advantages and disadvantages? Joe Bunnett will then
describe his experience with caregivers.

Bio:

Ruth Martin is the founder of Health and Care, a
not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) Adult/Senior Day Care home that
puts the needs of those it serves first. She currently
works as a Senior Consultant with her own Home Care
business. Educated in Europe with work experience in
Germany and Switzerland in Nursing and Midwifery, Ruth
believes this background is the reason her caring retains an
"old-fashioned" touch. She believes in people first!
Listen to them before acting. In addition to her
certification in Europe, Ruth Martin is certified by the
State of California as Administrator for Residential Care
Facilities for the Elderly. Additionally, Ruth has written
her own column in a daily newspaper on elder care and
understands the many challenges confronting seniors. Her
web site is http://www.adultandseniorcare.org. We know Ruth
since she has recently accompanied Joe Bunnett to our
meetings.

Joe Bunnett is Professor of Chemistry Emeritus, founder and
former Chair of the UCSC Emeriti Group, and a regular
participant in our meetings. Ruth and Joe will jointly
present this talk on a topic of interest to all of us.
